Artisan statement from Julie Miller: I create handmade functional pottery that combines art with the utilitarian routines of our everyday lives because I truly believe that drinking your morning coffee from a handmade mug makes all the difference. I have always been inspired by patterns, whether from nature or textiles, and I try to marry those images in my slip trail designs that I apply to my pots to accentuate the forms. Glazing has always fascinated me, and I’m still surprised by how transformative the process can be. Finding the balance between glaze and design is what keeps me going.
